Bright Chapel Lay Annual President's Report (2008 / 9 AMEC Year)

Date : 18th October, 2009

I give glory and honour to the Almighty God for his mercies and grace upon us.

I thank the Almighty God for giving me an obedient and hard working executive and of course the so lovely and devoted membership.

To the Pastor In Charge Rev A.Mulapwa and Lay Members, I greet you all in the precious name of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ and welcome you to this year¡¦s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

REFLECTION : Psalm 42 : 1 -2 As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God.My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.When can I go and meet with God ?

2008 / 9 AMEC YEAR REVIEW

1.0 MEMBERSHIP : Renewed and fresh membership for the year under review stands at 80 against our projection of 100, but an increase by 20 from the year 2007/8 which reflects an increase of 33%.This is the highest ever membership recorded in the recent times if not a record of all time.
No member was gowned during the year under review due to reasons beyond our control. The total gowned population is therefore still 51 and includes those who did not renew during the year under review.
OBITUARY
I'm saddened to report the death of our beloved and hard working Historiographer Sister Judith Mfula, on 10th July, 2009. May Her Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.

2.0 SPIRITUAL & LEADERSHIP :
We hosted the now Annual Prayer Breakfast on 29th August, 2009 whose theme was derived from Leviticus 6 : 12 and entitled 'Keep your Fire burning' .This year's event was bigger, better and overwhelmingly supported by the local members. We thank the Almighty God for making this a success and our Pastor In Charge for his continued support.
However, the cornerstone for the spiritual strength revolves around the Friday worship services which we still even this year have not lived to expectation and performed below par.We hope the incoming executive can motivate this area more and streamline this noble cause.
We were represented at all Official Boards and Quarterly Conferences.

5.0 CONCLUSION
Despite feeling like a deer longing for the streams of water in wanting to serve more as Lay President, I'm saddened and emotional to say 'what goes up must come down'.It's time to move on and hand over the baton of power to the next person to steer the Bright Lay to even higher standards. I hope I've left a legacy to be remembered, a legacy to be emulated, a legacy to be admired and a legacy to inspire the future generations to come.
During my stint I've endeavoured to bring out the best out of each of my executive members and I'll be equally failing in my duties if I don¡¦t mention the growth, character, the knowledge, the experience which has been imparted into me as an individual as a result of interacting with you all.
If at all unknowingly during my execution of duty I had stepped on some people's toes, I beg for forgiveness. However, what am sure about is I made a lot of friends whom I shall cherish for the rest of my life and who shall continue to be a blessing in my future roles whether at Bright Chapel or elsewhere.
The support you gave me, the sacrifices you made, the contributions you rendered, the initiatives evolved must continue and passed on to the next President and executive alike. I'll be the saddest person to see all these attributes disappear with John Chilekwa. Continuity and growth must thrive and must forever be the driving force for Bright Chapel Lay Organisation.
Allow me to single out my DOLA, ACB for the perfect & solid partnership, I do appreciate your service Madam Bowa, you made my job easy and enjoyable, always loyal and timely in execution of tasks and ever ready to spice up my works.
Brother Kafusu for dragging me into the LAY Organisation and later handing over the mantle of authority to me as President in April, 2005. This single move has made me realise the latent potential of leadership which was concealed in me. Lay Organisation has taught me to be a public speaker, has turned me into a speech writer and many other take aways which I cannot count all.
The list of people to thank is endless, I would simply say, every other executive member and members too numerous to mention who served under me, I salute your contribution and for making my reign a success.
This is not the end of me in Lay circles, I'll still continue to be an active member and be as a resource to the incoming executive and any other wing that might require my services.

May the Good Lord bless you all.

Yours Servant In Christ,

Local Lay President ( 2005 - 9 )
John Kabwe Chilekwa
